Seacoast United has long been involved with supporting local soccer players and programs with support, advice and donations, and has broadened its Community Outreach programs to include international support and donations. Since 2008 after returning from a trip working with youth leaders and children involved with the Sports for Social Change Network (SSCN) in Kenya, Paul Willis and Matt Glode have tried to identify and support groups where soccer equipment can be put to great use. SSCN was introduced to Seacoast United by CARE Int. and Nike.
In 2009, Seacoast United has donated over 200 pairs of Nike soccer shoes and cleats, 100+ SUSC t-shirts, 100+ new and used soccer balls, soccer pumps, water bottles, 4 sets of uniforms and even a refurbished laptop computer. The donations have been shipped to areas such as war afflicted locals in Iraq, a large school in Haiti, a children’s orphanage in Honduras as well as to members of the SSCN in Kenya who support women’s health and equality.
Seacoast United and Seacoast United Maine plan to continue this type of support and hope to involve our current players. For any information of how you may be able to lend support or if you have suggestions, please contact Matt Glode at firstname.lastname@example.org.
