Mariners Finish In A Draw
May 15th, 2016

Following their stunning Friday night, rain soaked success, Seacoast Mariners looked to continue their winning ways Sunday against the Brooklyn Italians in the second game of their New York trip... Just minutes later, Mariners wide man Matio Dimov would score again to give his team the lead. The Bulgarian Bandit chested down a long throw before superbly half volleying into the top corner.  This was his second goal in as many games and it put the Mariners firmly in control at the halftime whistle.

NPSL Mariners Defeat defending National Champions!
May 13th, 2016

Seacoast United Mariners defeated defending NPSL (National Premier Soccer League) Champion New York Cosmos B at Mitchel Field on a wet and windy Friday night. It was the first loss in the Cosmos NPSL history.

Matio Dimov scored on a pass from Max Watson in the 31st Minute.  The wide midfielder picked up the ball on the right side, 35 yards from goal. He rode a challenge then rifled the ball from 18 yards, just inside the goalkeeper’s near post.

Cosmos almost found the equalizer 5 minutes later following a header from their wide man Mitrano but Mariners goalkeeper Will Pike brilliantly blocked the header from point blank range.

As the game progressed, the Cosmo’s struggled to break down the well-organized Mariner defense.  They continued to press, sending their outside backs forward but that subsequently left space in behind for the Mariners to exploit on the counter attack. While chances came for both sides, none were converted.

The final whistle heralded great scenes of delight for the Mariners who had turned in a magnificent performance despite a difficult journey down and very tough weather conditions.

Hearty congratulations go out to the coaching and playing staff for a magnificent effort.

Mariners Fall to Boston City FC
May 11th, 2016

Seacoast United NPSL team played their first game of the season against Boston City FC at Hannaford Field on the University of Southern Maine campus. The Mariners started the game sluggishly and Boston took the lead 16 minutes into the first half on a powerful finish, driven past keeper Will Pike before he could react. Things worsened for Mariners when Boston struck again just two minutes before half time. A defensive turnover 30 yards out allowed the visitors a 3 on 2 counter that was again finished well.

A stern half time team talk ensured the second 45 minutes proved to be very different for Jim Hopkin's Mariners. They came out much more aggressively and more than matched Boston's intensity. Seacoast made the breakthrough break through with 18 minutes left on the clock following a great pass from Duran Shand to Drew ParsonsParsons controlled the ball well and composed himself under pressure from two defenders before firing the ball firmly into the top right corner of the net. It was no more than their second half display deserved and subsequently, the Mariners threw everything at the Boston net in search of the tying goal. This pressure resulted in a string of corners and free kicks, but try as they might, that decisive breakthrough was not forthcoming.

The game would end with a final score of Mariners 1 Boston City 2 and the host team will be left ruing it's slow start. However they doubtless be highly encouraged by a second half performance that will buoy them up greatly for a difficult weekend trip to New York City. A trip which will feature games against defending champion and unbeaten New York Cosmos B (Friday) and Brooklyn Italians on Sunday afternoon.

Maker & Bland Lift Mariners Past Brooklyn
June 6th, 2015

Saturday the Mariners NPSL team was at home once again at USM's Gorham Campus. Having lost to the Italians 2-0 in their first meeting the Mariners were looking for redemption.

In the 40th minute Elliot Maker received a pass from Ramon Espinoza just beyond mid-field and broke through the Italians defense. Makers first shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but the rebound fell kindly for Maker who made no mistake on the seconded attempt and drove the ball home.  Maker extended his scoring streak to 3 games. The Mariners lead the game 1-0 at the half. In the 58th minute the Italians answered back when the ball was passed across the top of the box to Diego Zuniga who picked his spot perfectly making the game 1-1. It remained that way until the 80th minute when a poorly cleared corner came out to Marc Goulet at the top of the box. Goulet fired a shot through traffic that deflected off of Jerome Bland and dropped to the ground inside the 6 yard box. Bland was able to collect the ball and pass into the back of the goal. The Mariners were able to hold onto the 2-1 lead, thanks to a huge effort from goalkeeper Will Pike. Pike had an outstanding game in goal recording 16 saves. The Mariners are back in action this Friday in Rhode Island against the Reds before returning home for a match against the Phantoms.

WPSL Mariners Win Big vs RI Reds
May 30th, 2015

The Mariners WPSL team earned their first win of the season over the Rhode Island Reds by a score of 7-3 at Stevenson Field on the campus of

Brown University in Providence Rhode Island. The Mariners dominated the game from the kick off as Rhode Island came out fast and furious against the Mariners, but the speed of play by the Mariners was just too much for the Reds to keep up with. The combinations of midfield play by Steph Gilkenson, Kristi Zerrilli, Megan Snyder, Caitlyn Bucksbaum, and fresh from Louisiana State University new Mariner Heather Magee, dictated the play for the entire match. Goal keepers Megan Manley and Madison Card combined for 8 saves. Goals were scored by Pavlina Nepakojova, Steph Gilkenson, Jaymee Wallace, and Amanda Arnold. The Mariners next match is June 6th at home vs. the Boston Aztecs.

NPSL Mariners, Finish 1-1 vs NY Athletic Club
May 30th, 2015

GORHAM, ME - The Seacoast United Mariners recorded their second tie of the 2015 season as they played a very tough NYAC team on the campus of USM.

The Mariners threatened early in the first half when Zach Bouchard touched it past NYAC's last defender and was left 1 v 1 with the keeper. NYAC's goalie came up big and made two saves to keep the ball out of the net. The score remained 0-0 at the end of the first half. Early in the second half Mariners player Elliot Maker collected the ball just inside NYAC's half, split three defenders, and slotted the ball past the keeper to put the Mariners up 1-0. The Mariners were unable to hold on to the lead, in the 75th minute a NYAC strikers shot ricocheted of the post and into the goal. The Men return to action on June 12th in RI.

Mariners NPSL
May 16th, 2015

On Saturday May 16th the Mariners NPSL Men's team took on the league leading NY Cosmos at 6pm. This was the second meeting for the two clubs with the NY Cosmos defeating the Mariners in their first match. The Mariners were able to catch the Cosmos on two counter attacks and were up 2-0 in the first half. With two minutes remaining in the first half a more than questionable obstruction call was made inside the Mariners 18 yard box. This gave the Cosmos an indirect free kick within 10 yards of the goal. Going into the half the score was 2-1 in favor of the Mariners. In the second half the Cosmos were able to take the lead for the first time in the game going up 3-2. With less than 5 minutes remaining the Mariners were able to pull one back and tie the game 3-3 with a strike from the top of the 18. Goal scorers for the Mariners; Grady Trimble, Elliot Maker, and Eric Barthold. The Men will be at home once again on May 30th at USM vs NY Athletic Club.

Mariners WPSL
May 16th, 2015

The Seacoast United Mariners WPSL team lost a heartbreaker against the Boston Aztecs on Saturday. The Mariners went up 1-0 in the 29th minute from a goal scored by Pavlina Nepakojova. The Mariners went on to threaten many more times through the first half and carried most of the play. In the second half the Aztecs scored the equalizer in the 65th min. on a questionable handball call, which resulted in a penalty kick. The play went back and forth with the Mariners threatening numerous times getting behind the Aztec defenders. The combination of Caitlyn Bucksbaum, Kristi Zarilli, and Steph Gilkenson in the midfield helped the Mariners dictate the game. The heartbreaker came in the 86th minute on a full volley from an Aztec forward. The Mariners played quite well and have their next match on the May 30th against the Rhode Island Reds.
